Paraphrase of telegram from Governor Sir M, Nathan to Mr Lyttelton.

(Received Colonial Office 10th July 1905.)

With reference to your telegram of the 8th

instant: On July 4th I asked Satow to offer loan to

Wuchang Viceroy on conditions which include the follow-

ing (7) Begins.

Payment of £400,000 to be made within 14 days

of the completion of final loan and joint working agree-

ments for Canton-Kowloon Railway or on August 31st,

whichever date is earlier: the second instalment

£350,000 to be paid by September 30th provided that the

above agreements have already been concluded: and the

third instalment of 2350,000 to be paid by December 15th

Ends. Unless Sator tells me that this condition is

unacceptable, I prefer not to modify it.
